The Troru project will not only bring health benefits to a remote Tibetan community but will also preserve an invaluable medical tradition for future generations throughout the world.
Conditions in these villages are extremely basic. The water that is available water must be carried from afar, none of it is safe, and toilets, where they exist, are inadequate. The aim is to provide access to 45 litres of safe water per day per person. The design process is participatory, directly involving the beneficiaries.
This is a long distance sponsorship program for monks to have the opportunity to dedicate themselves to fulltime studies. The sponsorships cover all the costs of their basic needs. To date 48 monks have been sponsored through ASIA Onlus.
UK Friends of ASIA is non-political group which aims to support the culture and peoples of Asia, with a particular focus on Tibet and the Himalayan area.
Our focus in 2012 is to raise £48,000 to help with the completion of Troru Tibetan Medical College.
